Denver — A Mile High City Tour
The city of Denver was founded in 1859. It combines historic restored buildings from a past of western history and a booming metropolis of enormous skyscrapers. The tour begins at the State Capitol. It was built in the 1880s entirely of granite. You will see the offices of the governor, the House and Senate and the Colorado Hall of Fame — all surrounded with marble and rose quartz walls and covered with an impressive dome.
Remember the Titanic? How about the “unsinkable Molly Brown”? The tour includes a guided tour of Molly Brown’s Gothic Victorian mansion. She struck it rich and became wealthy overnight; see what she did with her “new” money. The tour continues with “Millionaires' Row,” where you will see the mansions and lifestyles of the gold rush days and drive through a historic block where saloons and bordellos once stood.
The Brown Palace Hotel, completed in 1892, is a remarkable example of Victorian architecture based on the Italian Renaissance style. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated a Denver Landmark. From the exceptional beauty of the lobby with an onyx fireplace to the Ships Tavern, this is a memorable tour of the 107-year-old hotel, a home away from home to many presidents throughout the years.
Trinity United Methodist Church is one of the finest examples of “Modern Gothic” architecture in the United States. It truly is a work of art and exceptional beauty both inside and out.
