Golden Area Tour:
Dinosaur Ridge, Red Rocks, Lookout Mountain and
Colorado School of Mines
Begin your day by walking where dinosaurs walked 145 million years ago! The Dinosaur Ridge area is one of the world's most famous dinosaur fossil localities. Here, in 1877, some of the best-known dinosaurs were first discovered. This strata represents the shoreline sediments of an ancient seaway that was frequently trampled by dinosaurs, these beds have been called the "Dinosaur Freeway."
Don’t forget your camera! Your visit to Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater will surely be a sight that you will be talking about for a long time. Amidst towering cliffs slanting upwards, huge red sandstone rises hundreds of feet above you. The rock formations flank the amphitheater providing excellent acoustics and a stunning frame for Denver’s city lights. It is breathtaking!
Celebrate the exploits of the Old West’s most famous character, Buffalo Bill Cody, when your tour bus arrives atop Lookout Mountain. The museum contains antique guns, costumes, posters and memorabilia from his Wild West show. The grave site offers sweeping views of Denver and the plains.
Then it's off to the Colorado School of Mines’ Geology Museum. The museum started as a "mineral cabinet" put together by Arthur Lakes, the first curator of collections, in 1874. Today the museum has approximately 50,000 minerals, fossils, gemstones and artifacts. During your tour you will see minerals from Colorado; mining heritage displays and artifacts; and displays of gold, silver, gemstones and fossils.
