What's new?

Games room

AG08 will of course have a games room always open for your gaming pleasure. Here is a preliminary list of some of the games and tournaments:

 Armchair Treasure Hunt  PalabraTM
 Blokus®  Poker
Bridge (both casual and duplicate)  QwirkleTM
 Carnelli©  Scrabble®
 Cribbage  Set®
Double-Deck Cancellation Hearts marathon  Settlers of Catan©
 GemlokTM  Spelling bee
 Ka-ChingTM  Sudoku
 Live-action Kill Dr. Lucky  Sudokugrams
 Logic puzzles  Various trivia challenges
 Name That Tune

In addition, game manufacturers participating in Mind Games® 2008 agreed to donate copies of 30 of the 54 games judged to American Mensa (including four of the five that ultimately became Mensa Select® winners). These 30 games will help to stock the game room at the AG, and a few will be included in tournaments. The entries we are considering for tournaments are (* indicates Mensa Select winner):

 Amuse/Amaze*  Jumbulaya*  SetCubed
 Black Box  Pixel*  Tiki Topple*

The fifth winner, Eye Know, was a popular game and will be present in the games room, it but does not readily lend itself to tournament play.

Last but not least, here is an early list of special games-related events:

Werewolf: Evenings, Wednesday through Saturday
Werewolf is the newest role-playing game to hit Mensa. It is a marriage of skill and luck, and to play it once is to get hooked forever. Adults and kids alike participate in this "sometimes quiet, sometimes loud" game, so grab your place in the circle and get ready for a great time.

Simultaneous chess exhibition
Come and match wits with National Chess Master Todd Bardwick as he plays 40 simultaneous games with Mensans. This event is a Mensa Foundation fundraiser; players are asked to put a bill on the table ($5, $10, $20; not your electric bill!). There will be a prize for whomever can beat Todd in the least number of moves. Warning: he doesn't lose often, even against this tough of a playing field. Spectators welcome!

Reserve a seat to compete by signing up on the bulletin board in the Registration area; show up 15 minutes before start time to keep your reserved seat. Walk-ins will be welcome if seats are available.
